从五道口的喧嚣中出发,沿着黄河穿越无人区,跨过70万平方公里的土地来到荒凉的黄土高原,用1600小时的镜头记录下了边陲民间艺人的摇滚传唱——在将摄像机“埋进土里”三年后,青年导演杨植淳带着他的纪录片《大河唱》回到了自如旗下的空间Z-SPACE,在银杏树下,与他的观众们分享作品背后的故事。
从音乐到纪录片,一路寻找答案 2016年,杨植淳遇见了摇滚歌手苏阳。苏阳正好启动了一个跨界艺术计划——“黄河今流”,整理自己十几年来在民间采风时所收集的西北民间曲艺歌词、唱腔,并以展览与演出的形式对传统进行现代化呈现。这吸引了杨植淳和他拍摄团队的兴趣。一直渴望记录中国本土音乐发展历程的杨植淳,便决定为苏阳拍摄一部纪录片。
开始时,杨植淳和他的团队打算用《大河唱》完整记录苏阳“黄河今流”的项目,但仅仅是音乐纪录还不足以支撑90分钟电影时长。因此,他们决定同时将镜头转向构成苏阳音乐四种代表性的元素:花儿、秦腔、道情皮影和陕北说书,并且跟随它们各自的民间艺人拍摄。
按照计划,每位纪录片导演负责不同的艺人,而三名导演分别被分配给不同的角色。杨植淳负责跟踪环县道情皮影艺人老魏魏宗富及固原花儿歌手马风山,这个任务持续了三年。
回想起这段经历,杨植淳感慨地说:“在拍摄过程中,我会很好奇,有没有什么连接地方文化与人们生活之间的问题?这里的人们有电视也有手机,却仍然不辞辛苦翻山越岭去其他村庄表演。我觉得这个问题很迷惑。” 这个问题也激励他在接下来三年继续探索。
为了让真实感充满这场纪录制作 在Yang Zhi’s view, the subjects of a documentary film are not afraid of the camera, but rather they fear the person holding it. How to eliminate this fear and let them feel at ease is crucial for building trust between the filmmaker and their subjects. The final film is essentially a presentation of the relationship between the filmmaker and their subject.
The process of making a documentary film is like cooking; the camera is like a knife that cuts through reality. We aim to bring our audience not just realism, but also a sense of authenticity. Yang Zhi explains that during his time filming "Big River Sing," he adopted methods commonly used in anthropology and sociology research known as participant observation - staying with local people for years or even two years to understand their way of life.
To better integrate into daily village life, Yang Zhi lived in an earthen hut belonging to Old Wei's troupe and followed them as they traveled from village to village in rural Yuncheng County. He gradually discovered how music was connected to local customs and traditions.
After completing his work on "Big River Sing," Yang Zhi found himself with many questions about how best to share his experiences with others. His answer was simple: by sharing stories about those who have made significant contributions towards preserving China's traditional arts.
In conclusion, "From Village Fields to Harvard" represents both Yang Zhi's journey from rural China all the way up until Harvard University as well as his efforts towards keeping alive traditional Chinese arts through modern media such as documentaries.
As he continues down this path, one thing remains clear: filmmaking has become an integral part of preserving cultural heritage while simultaneously allowing artists like him explore new creative avenues while staying true to their roots.
And so we come full circle back where we started – from tradition comes innovation – echoing what can be heard throughout history - that change brings growth - no matter where you go or what you do along your journey.
So when asked why he chose self-contained spaces provided by self-owned real estate company Selfie Space (Z-Space), which offers living spaces designed specifically for young people seeking comfort amidst urban chaos,
he simply smiled saying:
"I enjoy every moment I spend capturing stories around me."
He added that there were times when unexpected scenes emerged during filming which left him feeling thrilled.
"It's all worth it because I am able pursue my passion."
